
Leading: Joyce Thomas; BSc with Honors in Information Technology
On day two of the USL 2024 Congregation, the balance of academic power squarely shifts to the women. The Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) were slotted for the 2nd day, December 18. They took the limelight after they produced two strong ladies who scooped the top awards, leaving their male counterparts to settle for the other spots. In a well-attended and well organized occasion, over a thousand graduates from several disciplines have joined the workforce and ready to contribute in nation building.
The best graduating student award was scooped by Hafsatu Kamara; BSc with Honors in Banking and Finance with a grade point of 3.81, closely followed by Jusu Gandi a male graduate. In the Faculty of Information Systems and Technology, another female graduate, Joyce Thomas; BSc with Honors in Information Technology scooped the top spot with 3.76 grade points.
In an interview with Joyce Thomas at the Ajayi Crowther Amphitheater, FBC campus, Miss Joyce Thomas expressed and gratitude to the management and staff of the University for providing the conducive atmosphere for female students to prevail.
She said in this time of Artificial Intelligence, she wants to become a leading IT professional who will help change the perception of IT being a male domain.
Joyce calls on women to venture into the IT discipline and make the much deserved digital switch in Sierra Leone. Miss Thomas carried the Africell award for the best graduating student for the IT faculty, taking away a certificate, and cash.
