Three individuals, including a 13-year-old schoolgirl, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No. 1 in Freetown on charges of conspiracy and larceny involving $10,600 (NLe 240,017.00), property of pensioner Wilhelmina Thompson.
The accused persons, Juliana (13), Mabinty Kamara (31), and Ramatu Kamara (31) are charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The alleged incident occurred between August and October 2024 at No. 1 Thompson Drive, Congo Cross, Freetown.
During the hearing, ASP Ibrahim Mansaray, prosecuting, led Wilhelmina Thompson, the complainant, as the first witness. In her testimony, she identified the accused persons and recalled how the third accused approached her, requesting that the first accused (her daughter) stay with her.
Stunned by the details revealed, the police prosecutor applied for an adjournment to allow more time for preparation and further consultations with the witness.
Defense counsel A. Mansaray applied for bail on behalf of the accused, emphasizing that they are residents within the court’s jurisdiction and have reliable sureties ready to post bail.
He also highlighted the first accused’s status as a minor and a student, while noting that the second accused is a lactating mother whose detention could negatively affect her child.
Citing Section 79 (2&3) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965, the defense counsel pleaded for bail for all accused persons.
After considering the application, Magistrate Kekura granted bail to the minor in the sum of Le5,000 but denied bail to the two adult accused persons.
The case was adjourned to December 23, 2024.
Two men remanded for alleged robbery and assault

Chalie Kamara (36) and Razack Bangura (35) have been remanded at the Male Correctional Center after appearing before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on charges of felony, robbery with violence, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.
According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred on November 5, 2024, at Regent Village, Freetown. The accused, along with other unidentified individuals, reportedly conspired to commit robbery with violence.
The prosecution claimed that during the incident, the accused forcefully took a bag containing NLe 20,000, a Samsung mobile phone valued at NLe 5,000, and a live goat worth NLe 2,500 from Mohamed Saccoh, amounting to a total value of NLe 27,500.
They allegedly used physical violence during the robbery, inflicting bodily harm on Saccoh.
Inspector T.A. Sellu, prosecuting, requested a short adjournment to summon the prosecution’s witness. In response, Magistrate Kekura denied bail for both accused persons and ordered their remand.
The case was adjourned to December 18, 2024.
