Students of the University of Sierra Leone have expressed dissatisfaction over the supply of insufficient and substandard regalia for their orientation ceremony across the three campuses, FBC, IPAM, and CoMAHS respectively.
It could be recalled that over the years, Orientation ceremonies have been a welcoming moment for freshers, which serve as a bridge between high school and University education. In normal circumstances, before this ceremony, students are expected to be supplied with Lacoste, a Neck-tie for male students, a Scarf for females, and a cap for both male and female students. Meanwhile, the 2024/25 Orientation Ceremony had taken an unexpected turn. Students only receive a substandard round-neck polo.
Speaking to Concord Times on Thursday, Radiatu Balu Sesay, one of the freshers pursuing Gender and Development Studies at FBC, expressed she has paid her fee, and she was so excited to go to University, but the regalia supplied to her made her very dissatisfied.
”The Polos supplies to us are nowhere close to what we were expecting. We paid an exorbitant fees expecting a quality supply for the orientation, but what we were supplied is very disappointing,” Sesay expressed.
Mohamed Sall, a student of institute of Public Administration IPAM, also emphasizes similar statement criticizing the administration for failing to meet their expectations.
”It feels like the university didn’t prioritize us. This is our first experience as students here, and it’s already leaving a bad impression,” Sall remarked.
