Abdul Salam Razak, a 20-year-old student, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Court No.1, Pademba Road, and was granted bail set at Le250 million.

Razak faces eight charges, including attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent, and possession of a firearm without a license.

The charges stem from an alleged incident on April 24, 2024, at the Gof Lane Secondary School field in Grafton, Freetown. Police allege that Razak shot Kangbai, leaving him with serious injuries, and assaulted him during the altercation.

Prosecutor ASP I.S. Mansaray presented evidence to strengthen the case, leading Exhibit Clerk Issa Kamara to testify. Kamara recalled receiving key exhibits on June 17, 2024, from DPC 10353 Bangura, attached to the Major Incident Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department.

The items included, an old pistol marked SL/SL3/16 with serial number 006182/7, four rounds of live ammunition, an old magazine, and an old, assorted handbag.

Kamara stated that the items had been in police custody since their submission and were formally tendered in court as evidence.

During cross-examination, the defense counsel renewed their bail application, arguing in favor of Razak’s release.

Magistrate Kekura granted bail, setting conditions that the accused provide two sureties. The sureties must be employed in reputable institutions and possess valid national identification cards.

The matter was adjourned to November 29, 2024, for further hearings.
