Sand miner faces murder charge

Ibrahim Jalloh, a 26-year-old sand miner, has appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1, facing a charge of murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).

The prosecution alleges that Jalloh, between Tuesday, 12th March, 2024, and Wednesday, 13th March, 2024, at Upper Vincent Drive, Rokel Village, Freetown, murdered Fatmata Kamara.

Police prosecutor Inspector Lahai M. informed the court that the prosecution’s key witness was unable to appear due to illness.

Magistrate Kekura emphasized that if the prosecution fails to produce its witness by the next hearing, the case will be discharged.

The matter has been adjourned to 2nd December, 2024.
