SLPP Chairman and PPRC Chairman
The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) on Friday, 14th March, handed over its findings on the investigation into the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) lower-level elections.
In February, the SLPP conducted its lower-level elections in various constituencies across the country. But several concerns regarding their fairness of the election emerged and individuals dissatisfied with the electoral process in their respective localities filed petitions from 14 political districts, including Western Area Rural, Western Area Urban, Kenema District, Bo District, Port Loko District, Koinadugu, Kambia, Bonthe, and Kono.
The PPRC completed hearings on the petitions, which began on 24th February, and has handed its findings and decisions to the National Executive of the SLPP.
“It is the responsibility of the Commission to regulate the activities of political parties to ensure order, decorum, and a level playing field for every political party. Among the functions of the PPRC is to ensure fairness in intra-party elections,” PPRC Chairman Emmanuel Koivaya Amara said during the submission of the findings. “We will review the report holistically, and we may accept its content,” SLPP National Chairman Dr. Prince Harding assured the party while receiving the report
