Port Loko District Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdul Latif Sesay of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), has urged the government to accelerate the completion of the 100-bed Mohamed Baime Zahir Hospital, a gift from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The hospital project, launched in March 2021 with a planned completion date of April 2021, remains unfinished.

Hon. Sesay acknowledged President Bio’s efforts in securing the hospital for Port Loko during the COVID-19 pandemic but expressed disappointment over construction delays. “The people of Port Loko are eager for this hospital to be completed. It was intended to be a one-month project, but it’s still incomplete,” he lamented.

He stressed that the hospital’s completion would benefit not only the district but the entire nation. “This is not a political issue; it’s about providing essential healthcare services,” he stated, emphasizing that the hospital’s prefabricated structure should have allowed for rapid construction.

Additionally, Hon. Sesay commended the establishment of a fire service office in Port Loko but highlighted the lack of essential firefighting equipment.

He called on the Ministry of Finance to procure fire engines and extinguishers to fully equip the station and enhance emergency response in the district.
