President of the National Olympics Committee/Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone (NOC/CGA-SLE), Prince Sualley in his message to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day urge the sports family to reflect on the deep ties that connect all as well as the shared responsibility to build a brighter future.

Sualley said this year’s Commonwealth Day holds special significance as they also celebrate the ascension of King Charles III to the throne.

“On this Commonwealth Day 2025, I extend warm greetings to the people of Sierra Leone, our fellow Commonwealth nations, and all friends who share in the values of unity, peace, and progress that bind us together,” he said.

“Today is a time to reflect on the deep ties that connect us, as well as the shared responsibility we carry to build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

This year’s Commonwealth Day holds special significance as we also celebrate the ascension of King Charles III to the throne.”

The NOC/CGA-SLE further stated that His Majesty’s leadership brings a renewed sense of purpose to the Commonwealth family, and looked forward to the continued strengthening of the collective commitment to peace, equality, and the spirit of cooperation.

He also revealed that the key moment in today’s celebrations is the launch of the King’s Baton Relay (KBR) for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, marking the beginning of the 500-day countdown to the Games.

He said: “This iconic event signifies not only the excitement of the Games themselves but also the unifying power of sport to inspire individuals and communities across the Commonwealth.”

According to Sualley, this year, the King’s Baton Relay will witness a significant shift in tradition, adding that for the first time, each participating nation will have a dedicated period to activate its segment of the relay for six days.
