At a time when rising fuel prices burden the everyday lives of Sierra Leoneans, Zala Fuel Company has emerged as a champion for the people, selling fuel at Le 26 per liter—Le 1.3 cheaper than the national pump price of Le 27.3.
Recognizing this rare act of fairness and integrity, the Native Consortium and Research Centre has awarded Zala Fuel Company for its commitment to affordable pricing and honest calibration.
Zala Fuel Company operates two stations—one at Jennifer Wright Road in Freetown’s east end and another at Mothaim, along the Regent-Grafton Highway.
Handing over the recognition award to Zala’s Managing Director, Sheku Gibrilla Turay, the Executive Chairman of Native Consortium, Edmond Abu Jnr, praised the company for its unwavering dedication to easing the economic burden on Sierra Leoneans.
“With over 500 fuel stations across Sierra Leone, only 18% deliver full calibration. In Bo, for example, only three stations offer a complete litre. But Zala Fuel Company is different—not only do they sell fuel at a lower price, but they also ensure full calibration. This is why we are recognizing them today,” Abu stated.
He condemned those campaigning against Zala for lowering fuel costs, stating that such efforts hurt ordinary citizens who struggle daily to afford basic necessities.
“We commend the Executive Director of the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), Mr. Baluwa Koroma, for ensuring a level playing field in the sector. This is the kind of leadership we need—not what we see at NATCA” Abu affirmed.
Abu urge Sheku Gibrilla Turay, Managing Director of Zala Fuel Company, to stay the course and continue putting the people first. “Sierra Leone needs more businesses like Zala”.
In response, Managing Director Sheku Gibrilla Turay assured the public that Zala will continue prioritizing the people’s welfare.
“Regardless of whether fuel prices increase or decrease, we will maintain our pricing formula. Our goal is not excessive profit but fairness to the people who rely on us,” Turay affirmed.
He said Zala Fuel Company stands as a beacon of hope for struggling citizens, proving that businesses can prioritize people over profit.
