A 33-year-old labour operator, Momoh Fofanah, has been remanded for allegedly funding the transportation of explosive substances from Sierra Leone to Liberia.

Fofanah appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on two charges, providing funds for the transportation of explosive substances and unlawful possession of arms.

According to the court clerk, the first charge alleges that Fofanah financed the transportation of 96 explosive devices from Bo Town, Sierra Leone, to Jendema, a border town in the Southern Region, without lawful authority on October 23, 2024.

The second charge accuses him of possession of arms without a license, both offenses in violation of the Anti-Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism, and Financing the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction Act, No. 4 of 2024.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray, detailed that Fofanah’s actions posed significant security threats and contravened Section 28(1) of the act.

Fofanah, who was unrepresented in court, did not enter a plea. Magistrate Kekura denied him bail due to the severity of the allegations and ordered his remand at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.

The case has been adjourned to Monday, January 13, 2025, for further proceedings.
