The Country Director of GOAL Sierra Leone, James Riak has called for a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to addressing the significant challenges in the health, water, and sanitation sectors across the country.
Speaking during a recent event, Riak emphasised the importance of collective action to create sustainable solutions for those pressing issues.
“But this cannot be done by one institution alone. We need the support and cooperation of all stakeholders—from government officials to civil society organizations, from healthcare professionals to community members. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who are most in need,” Riak urged.
The director explained that GOAL’s current project will focus on strengthening existing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems that will involve close collaboration with the government of Sierra Leone, community leaders, and healthcare providers.
He said by fostering those partnerships, the initiative will improve access to clean water, adequate sanitation, and better hygiene practices.
GOAL will provide extensive training, advocacy, and technical support to improve water and sanitation infrastructure while promoting hygiene practices in both urban and rural communities.
“Let us work together to ensure that every person, regardless of their circumstances, has access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene,” he said, stressing the importance of creating healthier, more resilient communities through collective action.
The initiative aims to tackle the critical issues of poor water, sanitation, and hygiene, which negatively impact the health and well-being of millions of people worldwide, including in Sierra Leone.
