Favor Institute of Technology and Skills (FITS) has on Saturday April 12 at the Grace Christian Church, Back of Medical Store, held their first ever graduation and launching ceremony.
Favor Institute Of Technology and Skills (FITS) which is located at the Fattaraman Municipal Junior secondary School at Canon Street in Freetown, focus on empowering girls in cake baking, Gara tie dying, decorations, beads crafting, event planning and IT services.
Speaking at the event, Favour Fatmata Conteh, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute narrated how the idea came about, stating that it was from her desire to see young girl grow and achieve in life as many has become school dropouts.
She added that by Empowering a woman you have empowered the nation, and FITS is one of the institute were creativity meet innovation, she explained the mission of the institute is to build a generation of girls that have skills to empowered themselves and make positive impact in society.
Conteh also emphasized that with the training, students are receiving for the centre they will able to shape minds, build confidence, and able to ignite purpose.
She congratulated the 13 graduates for making history, and also encouraged them to go out to the cooperate world and shine and make different with what they have learnt.
Grace Turay, student at FITS expressed happiness as she is among the first batch of students to graduate at the institute; she also noted that woman empowerment is vital to learn skills.
She ended with a word of encouragement to her fellow women, saying that woman should learn skills despite being educated as it will sever as a backup.
