It is only left with the court to prove what might have gone wrong in this romantic affair

Abdul Kpaka, a lecturer at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, appeared last Friday before Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens at the High Court in Freetown, charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Sia Fatu Kamara.

Kpaka faces two counts: murder and perverting the course of justice. It is alleged that on August 13, 2024, he fatally attacked Kamara in Freetown.

During the court proceedings, State Prosecutor Yusfi Issac Sesay presented the case before the judge. He informed the court that the accused had been arrested in compliance with an earlier court order and was brought before the High Court on September 6, 2024.

The arrest was carried out by Detective Inspector Andrew N. Amara from the Lumley Police Station, who also testified as the prosecution’s first witness, detailing how he apprehended the accused.

Following the testimony, Prosecutor Sesay requested two orders from the court. First, he asked the court to set a date for the trial under Rule 10 of the 1969 Indictment X Official Information Procedure Rules. Second, he sought permission to serve the indictment and evidence on the accused ahead of the trial, in accordance with Rule 17 of the same procedure.

Justice Stevens granted both requests and ordered that the case be moved from the Magistrate Court to the High Court, where the accused is expected to enter a plea on September 18, 2024.

Kpaka has been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road until his next court appearance.
