A defense witness has testified in the ongoing trial of Humunatu Agnes Gbla, a 33-year-old businesswoman, who is facing charges of grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The case is being heard before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown.
According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred on August 7, 2024, at Parsonage Street, Kissy, Western Area, Freetown, where Gbla is accused of inflicting serious injuries on Ibrahim Habib Tarawalie over an alleged one-million-Leone debt.
During the proceedings on Thursday, September 12, 2024, the defense, led by Counsel Coker, called their final witness, Aminata Sidinatu Koroma, a businesswoman.
Koroma testified that she knew the accused as her cousin but had no prior knowledge of the complainant. She recounted that on September 12, 2024, she received a call from her aunt requesting to meet her at 10:00 AM.
Upon arriving at Shell, she did not find either the accused or the complainant. She was later informed that Humunatu Gbla was with the community chief.
Koroma further testified that when she met Gbla, she was asked to accompany her to Shell Police Station. Upon their arrival, she saw the complainant, after which Gbla was taken into custody.
During cross-examination, Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Lahi M. asked Koroma if she knew anything about the incident between the accused and the complainant. Koroma responded affirmatively.
Following her testimony, the case was adjourned to March 17, 2025, for further proceedings.
