
The Board of Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) has appointed former national team player, Abubakar Kamara as Caretaker Coach of the Sierra Leone Under-19 national Men’s Cricket team.
Kamara’s contract will last for six months, running from January to June and he is charged with the responsibility of managing the Under-19 side, with a specific task of leading the squad to the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Finals in 2026.
Kamara has served as Captain of the Under-19 side, Vice-Captain of the Senior Men’s Team (aka the Patriots of Sierra Leone), with 20 years of experience as a national player.
“Abubakar is also a player (an all-rounder) and a coach of the Sierra Leone Police Cricket Team,” CSL stated.
Kamara made his debut for the Patriots of Sierra Leone in 2004 in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cricket League Division 3 Tournament in Benoni South Africa. Since then, he has been consistent in his performance both as a player and as a grassroots cricket coach.
In 2009, he led the Sierra Leone Under-19 Men’s Cricket Team to the ICC Global Qualifier, having successfully captained the Sierra Leone U19 National Men’s Cricket Team that participated in the ICC U19 Men’s CWCQ Africa Division 2 and 1 Qualifiers in Maputu and Lusaka in 2009 respectively.
He is at present the Head Coach of the Sierra Leone Under-17 Cricket Team and now the Caretaker Coach of the Sierra Leone Under-19 National Men’s Cricket Team untill the Board appoints a successor Coach of the Junior Patriots of Sierra Leone.
