President of the National Olympics Committee/Commonwealth Games Association (NOC/CGA-SLE), Prince Vandy Sualley has revealed that Sierra Leone will activate the King’s Baton Relay from June 15th to June 20th, 2025.
According to Sualley, during this period, Sierra Leone will embrace the power of sport and unity to rally the nation, as well as highlight a critical cause—the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Plastics Campaign.
He said: “This year’s KBR theme focuses on the urgent need to combat plastic pollution in our oceans, a cause that deeply resonates with Sierra Leone, given our rich coastal heritage and the vital role the ocean plays in our lives.”
“As the Baton travels through Sierra Leone, it will symbolize more than just a connection to the Games; it will be a call to action for all of us to take responsibility for the health of our planet. The Clean Ocean Plastics Campaign is a global reminder of the threat posed by plastic waste and the importance of protecting our ecosystems for future generations.”
The NOC/CGA-SLE President said, they are committed to raising awareness, reducing plastic waste, and promoting sustainable practices in our communities, and we are proud to align our activation of the KBR with this important message.
The King’s Baton Relay represents a celebration of the Commonwealth’s strength, diversity, and shared purpose. Through sport, we can inspire change, raise awareness, and drive collective action.
As the baton makes its journey around the Commonwealth, let us be reminded that our unity and commitment to a sustainable world will enable us to overcome the challenges of today and build a brighter tomorrow.
“On behalf of the Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone, I extend our best wishes for a successful journey of the King’s Baton Relay. We are excited to activate our segment in June 2025, and we look forward to celebrating the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with all of you,” he said.
