Aminata Sesay, a businesswoman, made her first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on three charges related to drug offenses.
She was arraigned for collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 7(b) of the National Drug Control Act 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008), possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 8(a) of the same Act, and dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority contrary to section 7(c) of the Act.
According to the particulars of the offense, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at No. 26 off Race Course Road, Cline Town, Western Area, Freetown, the accused allegedly collected a prohibited drug without lawful authority.
Count two further stated that on the same date and location, the accused was found in possession of twenty-eight wraps of cocaine without lawful authority.
On count three, it was alleged that she engaged in dealing with a prohibited drug on the same date and location without lawful authority.
When the charges were read and put to the accused, no plea was taken.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, requested that a subpoena be issued to the investigator and the exhibit clerk, as his witness was absent.
The accused was not legally represented at the time of the proceedings.
Magistrate Bangura granted the prosecutor’s application for a subpoena to be served on the investigator and the exhibit clerk. The matter was adjourned to February 25, 2025, for the continuation of the trial.
