The Audit Service Sierra Leone Muslim Jamaat (ASSLMJ) observed this year’s Ramadan Iftar on Friday 21st March 2023. The  regular observation ceremony took place on the 12th Floor of the Freetown City Council in Freetown.

The Learned Sheikh Farouk Adam Bah served as quest speaker for this year’s Iftar ceremony and delivered sermon on the topic: “The Islamic Perspective of Auditing in Relation to Accountability of a Nation and the Day of Judgement.”

The ceremony attracted several Muslim Jamaats including the Imam of the Sierra Leone Navy Mosque at Government Wharf. The Iftar ceremony was chaired by the Deputy Auditor General for Public Enterprises and Projects (Ag DAG-PE &P), Mr. Mohamed Juldeh Barrie, who welcomed everyone, stating that Ramadan is a period of togetherness and unity among Muslims when the rich and poor should eat together to get a reward from Allah.

Mr. Morie Lansana, the Ag Deputy Auditor General of the Ministry, Department and Local Authorities who represented the Ag. Auditor General made a brief statement on behalf of the Ag Auditor General. He informed that the Ag Auditor General is pleased that ASSLMJ organized the second Iftar. He lauded the efforts of his staff for serving their maker, even during the pressing job demand.

The representative of the Ag Auditor General urged staff to carry out their work with the fear of Allah.

The guest speaker of the event Sheikh Farouk Adam Bah, in his opening statement thanked the organizers of the Iftar programme and expressed strong conviction that the initiators of this programme must have come from Islamic homes.

This is demonstrated by the resilience to host a programme of such nature in the office that is meant for worship but a place of work. He prayed that Allah would reward them with the blessing of Ramadan. He continued praying for the members of the Jamaat who contributed their finances for the occasion and the Management of the Audit Service Sierra Leone for providing the platform to enable the Jamaat to host such an occasion.

In his detailed lectures, the Learned Sheikh admonished members of the Jamaat to carry out their work with the fear of Allah and bear in mind that, one day they will meet their maker to give an account of the stewardship of their role as auditors during their stay on earth.

He continued that when doing your work as an auditor, even if you encounter your teachers, family members and friends, you should carry out your work diligently, with the fear of Allah to report the true findings of the audit, and not lessen the findings because of your relationship with the client.

The programme ended with Maghrib prayers and fast-breaking with food and drinks served to everyone present, which was the essence of Iftar.

The Jamaat was established in 2023 by the Muslim staff, as an association that caters for the welfare of Muslims at the Audit Service Sierra Leone.
