Air Sierra Leone to operate direct flight from Freetown to London

The Sierra Leone aviation industry has recorded a new development with the introduction of Air Sierra Leone, the country’s flag carrier that would soon be operating direct flight from Freetown to London within six (6) hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Air Sierra Leone, according to the Chief Executive Officer, Emmanual  Iza, which will commence the Freetown to London operations on December 2nd, will first consolidate it services within the West Africa region and then move to Europe and the United States.  

He said they would start with three flights and that they will increase the number as time progresses.

Iza said the airline will be run by a majority of Sierra Leoneans and that the initiative will open doors for investment and enhances import and export trade, especially the movement of agricultural produces.

The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Fanday Turay, officially did the press launch of the airline on Saturday, October 12, at the New Brookfield’s Hotel in Freetown, where he informed the media that the airline is a flag carrier with a private ownership.

He said the initiative will create employment for Sierra Leoneans and as well boost the country’s economy.
Director General, Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority,Musayero Barrie elaborated on the processes leading to the registration of the airline to ensure safety and standards.
