Beneficiaries and Staff of AGL
African Global Logistics (AGL), a leading logistics company with operations across Africa, has awarded scholarships worth Le391,089 to 51 students in Sierra Leone. The recipients, comprising 25 males and 26 females, were selected based on academic merit and financial need.
The scholarship distribution ceremony took place at AGL’s headquarters in Freetown, bringing together company executives, beneficiaries, and community leaders to celebrate the initiative. The scholarships aim to ease the financial burden of tuition fees and foster educational opportunities for deserving students.
Speaking at the event, AGL’s General Manager, Maroun Abi Aad, highlighted the importance of education in shaping the nation’s future. “We believe in the transformative power of education. As a company, we are proud to invest in the young minds who will lead tomorrow,” he remarked.
Recipients expressed gratitude for the support. “This scholarship is a huge relief. It allows me to focus on my studies and work toward my dreams without the constant worry of financial challenges,” said Isatu Turay, one of the beneficiaries.
The initiative is part of AGL’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, which supports local development projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The scholarship program drew praise from government officials and community leaders. Lamin Koroma, Chairman of the Seaside community, lauded AGL’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of private sector support in building a prosperous nation.
“This partnership between the private sector and education is vital for Sierra Leone’s development. I urge students to seize this opportunity, focus on their studies, and excel academically,” Koroma said.
Chairman Abubakarr Barrie of Moa Wharf also encouraged recipients to work hard to qualify for future scholarship opportunities.
Fabjanko Kokan, AGL’s Regional Managing Director, inspired students to persevere despite challenges. “This opportunity is yours to make the most of. Education is a powerful tool to change Africa, and I hope to see some of you working with us in the future,” he stated.
Kokan urged students to remain focused and committed, adding, “Your destiny is in your hands. Make the most of this opportunity to shape a brighter future for yourself and your community.”
Hannah, a beneficiary from the Moa Wharf community, expressed her gratitude to AGL, noting that many others lack such opportunities. She pledged to work hard to remain eligible for future scholarship programs.
