Justice Komba Kamanda,new Chief Justice

As he continues to reshuffle cabinet and other parastatals, President Bio has appointed Justice Komba Kamanda as the new Chief Justice of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.

Justice Kamanda has passed through the ranks and files of the Judiciary, from Magistrate, High Court Judge to Appeals Court Judge. He replaces Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke who held the position in an acting capacity.

The appointment of Justice Komba Kamanda came as no surprise to many Sierra Leoneans, who believe that he has been doing a lot for the government of President Julius Maada Bio.

He is one of the judges who presided over the petition matter of the ten elected All People’s Congress (APC) Members of Parliament who were eventually removed from their seats through a marathon trial.

He also recently presided over the treason trial of those involved in the November 26 failed coup.

His appointment, however, has been greeted with mix feelings among the Sierra Leonean public who strongly believe that he is not a better replacement of his predecessors.

Quite recently, he threw the Judiciary in a serious controversy through a statement he made during a dinner with the former Chief Justice Nicholas Browne- Marke.

Some are of the view that the judiciary under his watch may be deficient of credibility.
