The National Federation of Volleyball Sierra Leone (NFVSL), has over the weekend certified over 15 coaches nationwide in the groundbreaking Knowledge Transfer project.
The initiative which was aimed at advancing the sport of volleyball within the country with support from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) spanned for three months and was conducted by the Beach Volleyball expert who is also the Technical Director and coach instructor, Sorie Kamara.
According to coach Sorie, the journey started with him undergoing a year of training with over 15 courses.
He said the National Federation decided to have the training because over the years they were not getting the right people who were showing up for coaches’ training.
“To improve on this, we decided to go out and identify these coaches which we were able to fit into this FIVB project and we are grateful to have their cooperation,” Coach Sorie said.

Ansumana Bangura- one of the coaches who benefited from the three-month course, said it was intense training and they learned a lot ranging from not only becoming athletes but courage, resilient and working collaboratively
He said: “This course helped us know and will transform not only volleyball but sport in Sierra Leone. We now know not only how to develop players, but also another technical aspect. Thanks to FIVB and VFSL.”
The President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone, Sahr Morris Jr who was in attendance for the closing ceremony thanked the FIVB and VFSL for the opportunity given to start catching not only the coaches at a young age but the athletes and officials.
He called on all the beneficiaries to embrace the Federation and implement what they have learnt for the development of the sport in the country.
The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) approved the Knowledge Transfer Project, with funds to the Volleyball Federation.
