The Paramount Chief Member of Parliament (PCMP) for Falaba District, P.C. Thor Sheku Therena Kogonba Marah III, has voiced his constituents’ dissatisfaction over the government’s decision to divert funding for the Kabala-Kurubola road project to the Yeibaya-Guinea border road.

Speaking during a recent engagement with the Minister of Finance, P.C. Marah expressed his surprise and frustration upon discovering the change in the 2025 budget.

“The people of Falaba are not happy,” he stated. “Road construction has been a critical issue for us in Kurubola. When the project first started, it brought immense joy and hope to our people, as it was seen as a vital development for our district.”

He lamented that the road diversion deprives Falaba of much-needed infrastructure, emphasizing that good roads are essential for the district’s growth and its significant contribution to the country’s agricultural sector.

“Falaba is part of Sierra Leone’s breadbasket. We contribute to the nation’s food security, and yet we are left without proper road access. This is unacceptable. The government must prioritize the completion of the Kabala-Kurubola road to ensure equitable development,” P.C. Marah added.

The Paramount Chief urged the government to reconsider the budget allocation and address the concerns of his people, underscoring the role of local leaders as liaison officers for national development.

This development has sparked frustration among residents of Falaba District, who had hoped that improved road infrastructure would facilitate economic activities and improve their livelihoods.
