Julian Jusu, a twenty-one-year-old student, on Monday, 25th November, 2024, made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown on two count charges of larceny and malicious damage contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
It was alleged that the accused, on Sunday, 3rd November, 2024, at Attaya Base, Blue House, IMATT, Mountain Rural District in Freetown, did steal nine rolls 4M.M.A.C cables and twelve rolls 2.5 M.M cables, all to the total value of twenty five thousand three hundred and fifty Leones(Le25,350),property of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawallay, whilst in custody of one Hassan Turay.
The accused was further alleged to have on the same date and place, maliciously damaged nine rolls 4 M.M.A.C cables and twelve rolls 2.5 M.M cables, all to the total value of twenty five thousand three hundred and fifty Leones(L25,350), property of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice,Mohamed Lamin Tarawalie, whilst in the custody of Hassan Turay
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty
The prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K.K sought for a short adjournment date because his witness was absent in court
Hassan Turay, who is a caretaker at the Attorney-General’s residence recognised the accused person as a resident of the same community and recalled what transpired on November 3rd, this year.
Hassan narrated that during the night at around 8pm, he was moving round the house when he met the accused stealing the cables.
He told the court that he called on one of his friends-Idrissa, who helped him took the accused to the police station where he made statement.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person on remand.
The case was adjourned to the 28th of November, 2024, for further proceedings.
