Chief Minister, David Sengeh, has on 11th October, toured the facilities of Sonoco Bread Avenue at Wellington Industrial Estate in Freetown.
Minister David, who was colourfully welcomed by the Bread Avenue culinary said the visit was a testament to the intersection of artistry, hospitality, and community development.
In his address to newsmen just after his tour of the facilities, the Chief Minister expressed his admiration for Bread Avenue’s commitment to fostering culinary talent.
He maintained that “It’s truly inspiring to witness how a passion for baking and coffee has evolved into a center of excellence in hospitality training,” he stated.
Bread Avenue is a relatively young company which was inaugurated by President Bio on the eve of the June 24 elections.
Minister Sengeh said while critics initially accused the president of political maneuvering, but today, the company employs dozens of individuals and is on course to provide training for up to 400 people each year.
The Minister disclosed that the factory inspires hope that Sierra Leone is headed in the right direction. “When we invest in our people and stimulate economic growth, the private sector flourishes,” he stated.
He went on to state that Bread Avenue’s mission aligns with government’s core values, which include nurturing local talent and fostering community growth.
The Chief Minister was allowed to tour and explore Bread Avenue’s bakery, coffee shop, and skills classroom. He observed firsthand the dedication of the staff and students who strive for excellence in the culinary world.
Mark Pritchard, the General Manager of SONOCO Sierra Leone, on behalf of Bread Avenue, extends his thanks and appreciation to the Chief Minister for his visit, which he said served as a testament to the power of culinary arts and hospitality training in transforming lives and uplifting the Community.
He said Sonoco’s flour factory, currently under construction, is set to open its doors in approximately 12 months to is invest in the people of Sierra Leone, offering intensive programs that transition cleaner volunteers into paid chefs and servers.
