Bike rider jailed 5 years for robbery

Alihaji Yusif Fofanah, a bike rider, has yesterday been sentenced to  five years imprisonment by Justice Alihaji Momoh Jah Stevens for conspiring and robbing  Salamatu Shekinatu Jaow, property worth over five hundred thousand Leones.

The accused was dragged to court on two counts of conspiracy and robbery contrary to Section 23(1) of the Larceny Act 1916 as repealed and replaced by Section 1 of the Imperial Status Criminal Laws Adoption Amendment Act 1971 (Act No.16) of 1971.

The state persecution, M.P. Sesay, said the accused on the 8th August, 2020, at  Waterloo, conspiracy together with other people unknown to commit robbery.

He furthered stated that the accused on the same date, robbed the complainant Le 550, 000, 00.

In his judgement, the judge said the persecution had tendered several exhibits and three witnesses testified in their case against the accused person.

He noted that the prosecution had proven their case beyond reasonable doubt and therefor found the accused guilty as charged.

Lawyer Taylor Younge from the Legal Aid Board pleaded for mercy on behalf of the accused person, asking  that the judge should  not give the accused custodian sentence.
