Sierra Leone champions public sector reform at 24th UN CEPA session in New York

The Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), K.O. Bah, and the Director of the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) Sulaiman Phoray-Musa, represented Sierra Leone at the 24th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (UN CEPA), held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The extra ordinary conference converged leading public administration experts, senior government officials, and international development partners, to critically discuss strategies to strengthen effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) and Cluster 5 of the Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP)“ Revamping the Public Service Architecture “.

Extensive discussions were focused on how to actualise this year’s theme “Building Strong Institutions to Accelerate Recovery from Crises and Drive Sustainable Development.” With the view of enhancing governance innovation, digital transformation in the public sector, capacity-building for civil servants, and policy coherence in post-crisis recovery.

Speaking on the margins of the conference, the Chairman of the Public Service Commission K.O Bah noted that the UN CEPA offers valuable insights and global partnerships that are essential to Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to modernize and professionalize the public service. “We are committed to aligning our governance frameworks with international standards to deliver better services to our citizens.” he stated.

The Director of PSRU, Sulaiman Phoray-Musa spoke of the importance of Sierra Leone’s participation at this prestigious forum underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional frameworks, promoting transparency and accountability, and enhancing the efficiency of public service delivery.

The delegation will hold further engagements with relevant UN agencies and development partners to explore technical assistance and capacity-building support for ongoing public service reforms in Sierra Leone.
