
The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) has in a press release strongly condemns the heinous act of violence perpetrated against their colleague and
Member, Alusine Rehme Wilson.
Wilson who is also the Chairman of SWASAL Northern Region was attacked by fans of Wusum Stars during the Sierra Leone Premier League clash between Bo Rangers which Wusum Stars lost to the visitors on Sunday, 30th March, 2025.
According to SWASAL, the Northern Region Chairman, was viciously
attacked by alleged unruly Wusum Stars supporters while attempting to
conduct post-match interviews with Bo Rangers players.
“His professionalism and dedication to his journalistic duties were met with unwarranted aggression, resulting in physical harm and distress.
“The incident, which also saw indiscriminate stone-throwing and verbal abuse directed at match officials, is deplorable and has no place in sports or society at large.”
The Sports journalists Association said they stand in solidarity with Wilson and all journalists who risk their safety to bring news and stories to the public and calls upon the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this despicable act of violence.
“We urge swift action to identify and hold accountable the perpetrators, including the ring leader whose identity is yet known but can be established with the help of eyewitnesses and available footage. We implore the Premier League Board (PLB) Media Committee and Wusum Stars club officials to cooperate fully in seeking justice for Wilson and ensuring the safety of journalists in the future,” SWASAL stated.
