In an effort to improve educational infrastructure, the Country Manager of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), Capt. Fabjanko Kokan, has urged pupils of Aberdeen Municipal School to embrace learning and strive for positive change.
His remarks came during the donation of 100 benches and tables to the school last Friday, a gesture aimed at improving classroom conditions for students who previously struggled with inadequate furniture.
Addressing the gathering, Capt. Kokan emphasized the importance of education in shaping the future, encouraging pupils to make the most of the improved learning environment.
“The transformation we are working towards is not just for the older generation but for you—the new generation,” he stated. “This is not the first school we are supporting, and it certainly won’t be the last. We urge you to work hard so that one day, you too will be able to help others.”
He further noted that AGL is committed to fostering change, not only in Freetown but across Africa, benefiting future generations.
AGL General Manager, Maroun Abi Aad, echoed this commitment, stating that the company’s annual support initiatives reflect its gratitude to the communities where it operates.
“This year, our head office decided to focus on education because it is the foundation for building a brighter and better society. We are happy to make this humble donation, hoping it will provide comfort to the students and contribute to their development and success,” he said.
The principal of Aberdeen Municipal School, Peter Manso Samura, expressed deep appreciation for the donation, emphasizing that corporate social responsibility requires commitment and resilience.
“The support you have provided has contributed immensely to the development of our school. As an administrator, this is a proud moment—not just for me but for our pupils, who are the primary beneficiaries,” he stated.
He acknowledged the challenge of securing such philanthropic support and assured AGL that the school administration would ensure the furniture is well maintained for the next five to ten years.
Also speaking at the event, Abdulai Bangura, a former pupil of Aberdeen Municipal School and now an AGL staff member, encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunity.
“I was once a pupil of this great school. Today, I am proud that AGL is giving back to a place that played a significant role in my education. My advice to you all is to take your studies seriously. Work hard and you may one day achieve even greater success,” he said.
