Two Sea Coach sailors remanded for allegedly stealing over $5,000 worth of items

Samuel Benjamin Moiba and Alfred Abdul Karim Koroma, both sailors, have been remanded in prison by Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 for allegedly stealing valuables worth $5,200 from a passenger.

The two accused are facing two counts of charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1991.

According to the police, the alleged theft occurred on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Sir Samuel Lewis Road, Aberdeen, Freetown, where the accused conspired with others unknown to commit larceny.

On the same day, at Sea Coach Express, Aberdeen, the suspects reportedly stole, one black suitcase valued at $150, one grey Dell laptop, one black Samsung A23 mobile phone, other assorted items, bringing the total value to $5,200 ( NLe 124,800).

Those items belonged to Dr. Sheriff Emil Whites and were under the custody of Sea Coach Express management at the time of the theft.

Inspector Kadie Taylor, the prosecutor, requested a short adjournment to obtain and present CCTV footage of the incident in court. Magistrate Kekura granted the request, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and denying bail for both accused persons.

The case has been adjourned to March 24, 2025, for further hearings.
