Ecobank Sierra Leone Ltd, on Friday, March 14, 2025, donated over 50 packs of sanitary materials to female patients at the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Teaching Hospital in Kissy, Freetown.
The donation is part of the bank’s continued celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), observed globally on March 8, reaffirming Ecobank’s commitment to supporting women and girls in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Sheikh Omaru Jalloh, Head of Brand, Communications, and Marketing at Ecobank, emphasized that the initiative reflects the bank’s dedication to social responsibility, particularly towards marginalized groups.
“As part of the International Women’s Day celebration, Ecobank saw it fit to continue our support by donating 60 packs of essential toiletries, each containing 13 items, to the female patients at Kissy Mental Home. Many of them often feel neglected, which is why we partnered with the hospital to show our care and support,” Jalloh stated.
He highlighted that Ecobank has a long-standing partnership with the hospital, engaging in various projects to improve the facility and patient welfare.
“This donation is part of our corporate social responsibility to give back to society. The management of the hospital warmly welcomed our team, and we are happy to continue this partnership,” he added.
Madam Sarlefatu Samoura, Human Resource Officer at Ecobank-SL, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to uplifting women, especially during Women’s Month.
“We have always partnered with the Kissy Mental Home because we recognize that many women in this facility feel abandoned by society. Our goal is to show them that they are valued and appreciated,” she explained.
Dr. Elizabeth Alieu, Acting Medical Superintendent at the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Teaching Hospital, expressed gratitude to Ecobank for their continuous support.
“Ecobank has always been a strong partner to our hospital. This latest donation demonstrates their commitment to mental health care, especially recognizing women in psychiatric care during International Women’s Day celebrations. We sincerely appreciate them and encourage other institutions to support mental health initiatives,” she stated.
She further emphasized that mental health is an essential part of overall health, calling on NGOs and the private sector to contribute to the well-being of psychiatric patients.
One of the beneficiaries, Christiana Kamara, thanked Ecobank for their kindness.
