Africa Global Logistics (AGL) joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 under the theme “Accelerate Action”, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in the logistics and transportation sector.

The event, held at AGL’s Freetown headquarters, brought together employees, industry stakeholders, and gender advocates to discuss the challenges women face in the workplace and society. Inspirational speeches and panel discussions highlighted the urgent need for concrete steps toward equal opportunities.

In his opening remarks, Karifala Yamba Masaray emphasized the importance of IWD as a moment to recognize women’s achievements while addressing persistent inequalities. “This day reminds us of the contributions women make to society and the challenges they continue to face. The theme ‘Accelerate Action’ urges us to push for meaningful progress in all aspects of life,” he stated.

Social media influencer, Hannah Ogunade, popularly known as Waterloo Titi, encouraged women to persevere despite societal barriers.

She urged victims of gender-based violence to seek economic empowerment through business ventures and skills training. “Women are strong. We must strive for success and remain dedicated in all we do,” she affirmed.

Entrepreneur Fredricka Williams, owner of JF Heritage, called on women to become policymakers and seize available opportunities. “Gender equality is advancing, but we must take charge of the change. Search for opportunities that will develop you and strengthen your vision,” she advised.

Founder of Women in Agriculture and Nyanda Local Market Business, Bintu Nyanda Jibao, shared her journey from starting a small vegetable garden in Waterloo to leading a farming network of over 1,350 women across Sierra Leone.

Despite challenges such as high labour costs and lack of access to resources, she expanded operations to the south-eastern region, where she helped establish farming cooperatives and a mini-processing factory. “The journey has not been easy, but persistence and innovation have driven our success. Women must not give up on their dreams,” she encouraged.

As AGL’s International Women’s Day celebration concluded, speakers reinforced the need for sustained action toward gender equality.
