Some of the electric vehicles launched
NEEV Salone has launched over 20 electric and solar-powered vehicles in a ground-breaking initiative aimed at reducing fuel costs and promoting sustainable transportation in Sierra Leone.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the company’s headquarters on Pademba Road, Freetown.
To support the new fleet, NEEV Salone has established three charging stations and battery-swapping cabinets across Freetown, ensuring minimal downtime for drivers.
The company is also prioritizing youth empowerment by training young Sierra Leoneans in the maintenance and operation of electric vehicles, creating employment opportunities while fostering environmental sustainability.
Speaking at the event, NEEV Salone’s Chief Executive Officer, Moses Sandy, described the launch as a dream come true. He emphasized that this milestone places Sierra Leone on the global map for sustainable innovation.
“For years, Sierra Leoneans have struggled with the high cost of fuel. Our goal is to provide a solution by introducing cost-effective electric vehicles,” Sandy stated.
He highlighted that NEEV Salone is the first company to bring electric vehicle technology to Sierra Leone and urged the public to support the initiative. He further noted that the vehicles can travel up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, offering significant benefits to users.

Minister of Trade & Industry officially launch the vehicles
Charging the vehicles will cost only NLe 750, equivalent to purchasing electricity through EDSA meters. The company has also trained 100 university students from the mechanical engineering department on electric vehicle assembly and maintenance, helping to build local expertise in green technology.
“I want to assure the people of Sierra Leone that within the next seven months, we plan to open a factory in the country to manufacture more vehicles. We have already employed over 200 workers, including women,” Sandy promised.
Director of Climate Change at State House, Fuad Yousif Bangura, praised the initiative, noting that carbon emissions from fuel-powered vehicles contribute significantly to climate change. He commended NEEV Salone for taking steps to reduce carbon pollution and excessive fuel expenditure in the country.
In his keynote address, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ibrahim Alpha, applauded the CEO and his team for their vision in bringing electric vehicles to Sierra Leone. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the country’s broader strategy to combat air pollution and transition toward green energy solutions.
“By providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation options, NEEV Salone is making a significant contribution to urban mobility and environmental sustainability in Sierra Leone,” the minister stated.
The launch event was attended by representatives from financial institutions, media professionals, commercial bike and keke riders, and other dignitaries. Various speakers from different sectors expressed their support for the initiative, recognizing its potential to transform transportation in the country.
